Henning says: This was our first show in a long time with our sister band, The Fawns. The fact that none of us has written a word about it since the show, speaks volumes about it. We worked pretty hard to promote this one. We made great posters and hung them up all over. School for the Dead did an in-store at Night Owl Records on Thursday and the Fawns went on WRNX's Donnie's Used Cars Show to spread the word. Guess what? It didn't work. The turn-out was not very good. To tell you the truth, even the crowd that did turn-out just didn't seem very into being there. Maybe there was something in the air. There had been some crazy rainy thunder storms going on and I think the air pressure was messed up. Both Lesa and I experience the my-ears-need-to-pop feeling that sometimes happens. Maybe that was it. I don't know. But as we played I looked out into a lot of blank stares and a lot of folks, who I were excited to see and to play our new songs for, spent our sets playing pool in the other room. Oh well. We probably just fell for our own hype and had too high expectations. Whatever it was, the next day consisted of Lesa and I walking around feeling deflated. But,
to look on the bright side: It was awesome to be playing with Ken
in the band again. His energy is infectious and his driving bass-lines
propelled us all over the place. We played four brand new songs and
they all soudned really good. The surprise hit was Periscope which
took on a whole new energy in that live rock setting - it sounded
exactly like I had imagined it. Awesome. Brian was hitting hard. Tony's
pink eye was clearing up and Jason Bourgeois and Debbie Way were both
in town from out-of-town. |
