HENNING:
We played at the Space and it was really nice. I went to New Haven
early in the day to just explore. I saw Yale (which is a lot like
an old english castle) and I had some Modern Apizza (which is
nothing like an old english castle.) I went to some Salvation
Army stores but got nothing.
I found the
Space, somehow magically, and hung out for a while on my own in
the green room. I talked some to Chris and Steve but there was
so much chaos going on as they were setting up their big show
that I mostly tried to stay out of the way. I tried to make a
set-list but I only succeeded in writing down four songs and then
staring at them - for the past few days I have felt like I was
coming down with something, but I am trying to convince myself
that it just the peak of my allergy season and there is no way
I can possibly get sick until AFTER Transperformance.
The Space
show went over really well, even though we were just Tony, Max,
and Me. I counted in to the songs that needed counting (Brian
must be wincing since he knows how I never know what tempo to
do anything.) and it seemed to work out ok. We even played one
of the Tom Petty songs which was huge trainwreck but still pretty
good.
When we were
standing on the stage getting set-up, Kenyon (really nice guy
from the Space who was emceeing) complimented me on my red pants
and then said he didn't know if he "could pull them off."
I said, "No! You can' t pull them off!" Funny.
We sold some
cds and T-Shirts and made some new friends. The slightly Christian
atmosphere of the place began to become more appearent to me as
the night went on, and it felt a little strange, but everyone
is so friendly and accomodating there that I didn't feel alienated
or out-of-place at all, au contrare, mon ami! Au contrare! (What
happened?!? What happened?!?! - He spoke french!!)
Earlier in
the day, I was eating at Modern Apizza (on the recommendation
and following the cell phone directions of Zeke Fiddler) and I
picked up a New Haven Advocate. I flipped through it while waiting
for my pizza and there in front of me was a huge cover article
about The Space - serendipity, dude!
Mighty Purple
packed the house so we had a good crowd - they had a huge crowd
that were all singing along to the songs and cheering enthusiastically
- it was nice to see. After the show Chris asked if we wanted
to play down there every couple of months to build up a following.
Why, of course we would, thank you! That'd be awesome. Yee.
