I can say no more. I thouroughly enjoyed myself from start to
finish. Shelly is above and beyond Martha Stuart. And way cooler.
KEN:
dag, brian, why do you have to use so many expletives?? if you
didn't like shelly & tony's party, at least use some calm, printable
words.
no,
i agree with brian's critical assessment: five stars all over
the place! shelly made excellent food, labelled it excellently,
and seemed utterly relaxed while wowing all assembled -- it's
obviously second nature to her.
before
the guests arrived, shelly took olivia the skittish ken-phobic
cat and set her on my lap. and olivia stayed! that was one high
point.
also:
the japanese (or was that the chinese?) beer came in a cool grooved-bottle.
sort of like the grooves on a record! and i got to see sarah shoe
and scully, which is a too-rare occurrence in my life.
tony
had an upset stomach when i arrived, and while i totally know
that feeling and could sympathize, i still couldn't help scarfing
down the ginger-coated pecans that shelly had conveniently placed
in serving bowls all over the house. L.B. agreed, they were dangerously
yummy and addictive.
there
were whole bunches of people there. most of whom i did not know.
most of whom watched us play, and seemed to enjoy the music. i
thought we played well, but so far it's been hard for me to think
of these house thingies as concerts, which are related to the
shows we play on a stage at a club. they're more like odd events
that we happen to have our instruments at, and at one point we
pick them up and play them. i'm not at all complaining, it just
takes some getting used to.
but
i remember that after the first verse in "one lady dancing" --
when there's a random-length pause -- we all came back in at exactly
the same time! that was cool. and i enjoyed playing the "three's
company" theme...i think brian started in on the drums as i was
petering out, too bad i couldn't remember more of it.
