Henning says: On Saturday night School for the Dead minus
Ken drove out to Albany to play a show at the Larkin. El Bezo
came along. It was a sketchy situation since we were billed as
the headliners in a town where hardly anybody knew us. I didn't
expect many people but by the time the opening act finished (Mike
G from the Velmas) there were a total of three people in the audience.
We decided to not charge a cover at the door (I hadn't known that
that was an option) and Dan (who booked the show and ran everything)
went down to the ajoining restaurant (which was also almost empty)
and lured some people up stairs - at the largest, the audience
grew to about 15 people. Word is that on Labor Day, all of Albany
leaves town to go camping.
The Larkin
is a really nice little room and the audience, it turned out,
was full of the local music elite. Of note, John Brodeur, who
has a band called The Suggestions and Mike from Knotworking.
We brought
out some Activity Pages which seemed pretty popular and acted
as a good distraction because our performance was of questionable
merit. It's time to start having band practices again in which
we play our songs instead of just learning Tom Petty covers. It
was still fun and I think people liked us ok.
